Freedom School: I am an American but Not Your American
January 31, 1 - 3:30 pm
Facilitated by Elizabeth Burden
What does the concept of “American” mean right now—especially to persons of color?
This 90-minute creative workshop invites participants to explore that question through writing, reflection, and shared conversation. Starting with the creative essay I Am an American, But Not Your American as a provocation, the workshop creates space to examine belonging, refusal, memory, and possibility beyond narrow or exclusionary definitions of “American.”
Participants will be guided through simple creative prompts to create art works that define or re-define the meaning. No art or writing experience is required—just a willingness to reflect, curiosity, and openness.
